We are very excited to announce a live-streamed Zoom seminar class taught by Max Eriksson Sensei this Saturday at 12 pm CDT | 19:00 CET | 6 pm UTC!
Max Eriksson Sensei Bio
Max Eriksson Sensei, 6th dan Aikikai, has been teaching and practicing at the Aikido Dojo am Gleisdreieck in Berlin, Germany for 20 years. He began his Aikido practifce under Gerd Walter Shihan at the age of 17. His main Aikido teachers and influences are Christian Tissier, Endo Seishiro, Ulrike Serak, and Philippe Orban Senseis. He started Kashima No Tachi sword practice under Inaba Minoru Sensei at the Shiseikan in 2006. In 2011, Eriksson Sensei made a one-year Aikido trip around the world, and he has made many trips to Japan for practice at the Hombu dojo over the past 15 years. He is currently the president of the Aikido Federation Germany.
Kihon Practice as the Foundation of Swordwork
This class will include solo sword practice for both advanced practitioners and beginners with a focus on suburi and exercises to relax and align the body with the sword.
The exercises will be Kashima-related, but one doesn’t need experience in Kashima or any other classic ryūha. Some experience in Aikiken is fine.
There will be practice and also longer explanation/lecture.
If people are interested, Eriksson Sensei can also explain some key points of the first series „Kino Tachi“ – but only if the participants already practice Kashima forms. Otherwise it is too complicated online, and one hour is not enough time.
You can practice along with the exercises shown, but it is also fine to just watch if you do not have enough space at home or simply feel like observing.
What to Bring to Class
For practice you need at least one bokken. It is recommended to bring two, one lighter and one heavier. But just one is fine.
No keiko-gi is necessary, comfortable clothe are ok.
Register to receive the Zoom link for the seminar class.
The seminar is by donation, and all proceeds will go to support our work as we continue to bring this practice into the world.
Suggested donation: $15-35
Donate via Paypal: (paypal.me/nolaaikido)
(If that’s too much, pay whatever feels comfortable. If you’re feeling a financial squeeze just come to class.)
Beginners are warmly welcome.
We look forward to practicing with you this Saturday!
Please share this email with any and all you think might like to attend.
