Taina Nyström Sensei started aikido in 1985 in Helsinki, Finland. Her main teachers are Seishiro Endo Shihan, Jan Nevelius Shihan and Miranda Saarentaus Shihan. She is currently practicing and teaching at Miranda Sensei’s dojo “Akari” in Vantaa, Finland. She holds the rank of 5th Dan Aikikai Tokyo.

Taina Sensei has travelled widely and always takes her keiko gi with her so she has ended up practicing and teaching aikido in many places around the globe, among the most exotic places being maybe Ramallah in Palestine and Hawassa in Ethiopia.

At the moment she is working on keeping the contact between uke and tori alive and playful. She emphasizes the role of uke being active and giving energy to tori. Tori’s aim is to listen carefully to this energy in order to be able to gently but determinedly control it and to free the partner’s movement just at the right moment. She aims at making the working together deep and enjoyable for both participants, tori and uke.

From Taina Sensei:

What I want to do on Saturday is to share with you the joy of my mornings in isolation. That includes some qigong exercises I have learned from Frank Ostoff Sensei and Jan Nevelius Sensei. Of course, in this case, it is my interpretation of the movements and my way of doing them. I’m striving for a flow of movements with an emphasis on being connected and feeling good about being alive. I hope you will enjoy it as much as I do!

What to Bring to Class:
Wear comfortable clothes.

Beginners warmly welcome.

Donation:
This week we will donate all proceeds from the seminar to Doctors Without Borders to assist with their COVID-19 relief work.

Suggested donation $20. If that’s too much, pay whatever feels comfortable. If you’re feeling a financial squeeze just come to class.
