From Alvaro Sensei:
As an artist, my goal is to propose alternative perspectives to open for new ways to see things and in this way provoke a meaningful experience for the one who participates. This of course is never an easy task and it requires to never stop asking question and to never assume that one knows. As an Aikido practitioner and teacher and researcher I would say, for me it is very similar. To offer or create a meaningful experience for a partner, oneself or even for a group of students, is my goal.
Perhaps the most meaningful experience is to learn to think and question by oneself and to be able to draw conclusions that will improve practice and hopefully life in general…Yet paradoxically, thinking and questioning by oneself cannot be done without the others, our partners, on and off the tatami. This is the riddle that we are all facing in these difficult times, how do we practice Aikido without a partner? How does Aikido practice manifest in our daily lives, does it even manifest at all? How should we practice without a partner or a tatami, is it even possible? These are some of the questions that we will explore during the class that Brian has so kindly invited me to teach, at NOLA Aikido via Zoom.
Alvaro Campo has been practicing Aikido Since 1997, based in Stockholm since 2000 he has been studying at Vanadis Aikido Dojo where he is currently also instructing. Alvaro’s main teachers are Endo Shihan, Jan Nevelius Shihan and Jorma Lilly.
