We have the great joy of welcoming Jan Nevelius Shihan, 7th Dan Aikikai, back to New Orleans in March! Jan Sensei is based at Vanadis Aikido Dojo in Stockholm, Sweden, and has practiced Aikido for over 40 years. His main teachers are Endo Shihan and Tissier Shihan. He has also trained with, and has been strongly influenced by, Osawa Shihan and Hermansson Shihan. He emphasizes connection, soft ukemi, and an approach to Aikido as never-ending research.

The weekend seminar will take place at our sister dojo just north of the city:

Extra Weekday Bokken and Aikido Classes

Also, for us locals and those able to come to town earlier:

Wednesday, March 15th and Thursday, March 16th from 6 pm to 7 pm at NOLA Aikido, Jan Shihan will teach bokken classes (weapons provided by NOLA Aikido) for 3rd kyu and above and maximum 15 people per class. Register now to reserve your spot!

Wednesday, March 15th and Thursday, March 16th from 7 pm to 8:30 pm at NOLA Aikido, Nevelius Shihan will also teach two extra Aikido classes for all levels. Register now to reserve your spot!

Extra Bokken and Aikido Classes: $35 per class

COVID Safety Guidelines

For all participants:

  • COVID vaccines and booster shots are recommended for all participants
  • Having a negative home antigen test before the first class is required.
  • Masking is optional.
  • If you have cold-like symptoms, including congestion, runny nose, sore throat, or fever do not come to class. 

Carpooling from NOLA Aikido to Aikido on the Northshore

As in years past, we will also arrange carpooling from NOLA Aikido to Aikido Nord du Lac on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday for all who need rides. More info about this by email once you register.

Saturday Catered Lunch and Saturday Evening Crawfish Party

There will be a catered lunch option after the belt exams in Mandeville on Saturday afternoon which will also include vegetarian and gluten free options. The cost for the lunch is $20 and must be purchased when you register for the seminar.

And we are excited for the return of our seminar crawfish boil which will include mountains of delicious Cajun-spiced crustaceans, boiled corn, potatoes, sausage, and more! There will also be vegetarian and gluten-free options. The cost for the crawfish party is $30 and must be purchased when you register for the seminar.

Accommodations for Out of Town Guests

It is possible to sleep on the mats at NOLA Aikido.  If you would like to be housed by a local dojo member, please email us after registering and we will do our best to accommodate on a first-come, first-served basis. And we are also happy to help with recommendations for hotels, Airbnb, and other options near NOLA Aikido and/or Aikido on the Northshore.
